Assisi was voted to be the Charity of the Year by the CIPR NI Committee from seven nominated charities. The organisation will now benefit from the support of the PR industry body in local fundraising efforts, awareness-raising and voluntary manpower by CIPR NI members.
Alison Kamble, Operations Manager at Assisi, said;
“We have operating costs in excess of half a million pounds every year and receive no government funding, so we are solely reliant on fundraising and our team of volunteers. It is fantastic to receive the support of the CIPR NI and we look forward to working with them over the coming year to raise awareness among this new and exciting audience for us.
“Whether the original site in Conlig or our three satellite charity shops, we are continually trying to ensure a welcoming, safe and comforting environment for the animals, staff and visitors alike so any level of support that can help us with that is wholly welcomed and appreciated.”
Over the coming 12 months, CIPR NI members and the regional committee will fundraise to support the continual development and maintenance of Assisi’s headquarters outside Newtownards, while providing pro-bono communications and media expertise to assist in ensuring the charity’s key messages are heard.

The Sanctuary operates a ‘No Kill Policy’, meaning euthanasia is carried out only in exceptional circumstances, while all animals are neutered, vaccinated, wormed and microchipped prior to rehoming. Assisi is committed to providing an excellent quality of life for the animals that come through its doors, regardless of age or state of health.
