Business advisory firm Grant Thornton UK LLP’s Belfast office has chosen to support learning disability charity Mencap through a strategic fundraising partnership from mid-2017 through to late 2018. After an internal voting process, Grant Thornton’s Belfast office is continuing its action packed 18 month partnership of fundraising to help raise an ambitious £5,000 for Mencap in Northern Ireland.

The partnership follows a successful effort by Grant Thornton UK LLP in 2017, when the firm raised £2,000 for Mencap by entering five relay teams in the 2017 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon, winning an award for entering the most corporate teams into the race. Looking ahead to 2018, Grant Thornton UK LLP is planning to build upon its success and once again participate in the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon as well as a number of fundraising initiatives.

Eryn Duff, Grant Thornton’s Sustainability Representative, explains:

“We are delighted to support the incredibly important work carried out by Mencap, our new corporate charity partner in Belfast. Many of our Grant Thornton team members have a personal connection to people with a learning disability and indeed all our people believe the work carried out by Mencap to be crucial. Through our partnership, we hope to learn about the current work that Mencap carries out and also help facilitate further projects across Northern Ireland.”

People at Grant Thornton are fully embracing the opportunity to support Mencap as their charity partner. Holding their very own Christmas market, bake sales and raffles are only some of the fundraisers they have planned to help reach their £5,000.

Fiona McCann, Corporate Fundraising Manager for Mencap Northern Ireland thanked Grant Thornton:

“To have a major organisation such as Grant Thornton choose Mencap as their nominated charity is hugely valuable for us and the services we provide to people with a learning disability in Northern Ireland.

“Everyone at Mencap appreciates this opportunity and the money raised will underpin our vital services including Early Years, Family Support, Employment, Personal Support and Housing.

“We cannot wait to see what the rest of the partnership has instore for Mencap and we will work hand in hand with the Grant Thornton team to make it as fun, and successful, as possible.”
