Business advisory firm, BDO Northern Ireland has confirmed details of a two-year partnership with The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity.   The award-winning accountancy practice selected the cause in a firm-wide poll.

The firm which has more than 170 employees has signed up to raise funds that will support staff, patients and families in the Children’s Haematology and Oncology Unit at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity was founded in 1984 and exists to support the work of the Unit, which is the only place in Northern Ireland where children receive specialist treatment for cancer. The Charity helps provide funds for essential equipment, additional provision of staff and other family support measures.

Maybeth Shaw, Partner at BDO Northern Ireland, said:

“Improving lives is a big part of our ethos. Across the firm, colleagues have been deeply touched and motivated by the work of The Children’s Cancer Unit. We are proud to be investing our collective time, energy and creativity towards those who through kindness, care and support make so much of a difference for so many children and families.

“Year-on-year, we’ve significantly raised our fundraising ambitions and, as a result, have broken all of our longstanding records. More than £21,000 was raised for good causes in the last two years alone. We’re confident we can eclipse that and team members will also volunteer time and professional services at the Charity to assist with a range of financial and administrative responsibilities.”

The firm’s fundraising programme with Children’s Cancer Unit kicked off in May as its team members put their best foot forward at the Belfast City Marathon and further events will be announced in due course.

Jacqueline Wilkinson from the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity said:

“We are thrilled to have the support of the whole team at BDO Northern Ireland, whose efforts over the next two years will help us to provide support for the medical team and staff at the Children’s Cancer Unit at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. Without fundraising partnerships like these, our charity could not continue to do this vital work.

“BDO have quite literally hit the ground running, with funds already raised through the Belfast Marathon, and we look forward to seeing what other exciting events and activities they have planned to raise even more funds for the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity.”

BDO Northern Ireland is an award-winning accountancy practice that employs more than 170 people in Northern Ireland and provides professional services to more than 1,000 local companies.

The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity is a registered charity and depends solely on donations from the public. All the funds raised are used to ensure that children who suffer from all forms of childhood cancer across Northern Ireland receive the best possible treatment and care, provided at the Unit.
